United Conservatives rack up investment wins while Nenshi talks down Alberta

July 14, 2026:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Calgary, AB – The pancake griddles were hot and so were the investment announcements at this year’s Calgary Stampede. Between flipping flapjacks, Premier Danielle Smith announced tens of billions of dollars worth of historic projects for Alberta. This comes after several weeks of Naheed Nenshi and his NDP caucus talking down Alberta with their anti-investment narrative.

“Naheed Nenshi has said over and over again that “no one wants to invest in Alberta” – I’m not sure if they’ve heard the news but the past seven days tell a very different story,” said Nolan Dyck, MLA for Grande Prairie. “These projects show the world that Alberta isn’t just open for business, it’s leading the way with a stronger economy, well-paying jobs, and even more opportunities for Albertans. Where the NDP are stoking fear, United Conservatives are focused on creating hope and opportunity for Albertans and Canadians. That’s the United Conservative way.”

The good news kicked off with a west coast oil pipeline application to the Major Projects Office – the same pipeline Nenshi called a “pipe dream”. The project will partner with Indigenous communities and is backed by Trans Mountain Corporation and Pembina Pipelines. It’ll also grow oilsands production and build Pathways – the largest carbon capture and storage infrastructure project on the planet.

Flanked by Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Premier Smith announced the Northern Shield Energy Corridor – a west-east pipeline running from Hardisty to Sarnia, Ontario that’ll create jobs along the proposed route while moving even more Alberta oil to new markets.

Capping off the week, Meta announced the largest private-sector investment in Alberta’s history – a $13 billion data centre in Sturgeon County that will create over 3,000 new skilled trades jobs and inject $250 million into our economy annually. It’ll be powered by the Greenlight Electricity Centre, a $4.6 billion natural gas-powered electricity facility backed by Pembina Pipeline, Kinetecor Asset Management, and Morgan Stanley that will supply Meta’s data centre with electricity.

“Nenshi and the Alberta NDP could be cheering on our province’s success but instead they’re waiting for their marching orders from their anti-pipeline, anti-data centre boss Avi Lewis,” said Dyck. “A strong Alberta means a stronger Canada. United Conservatives want nation-building projects, private investment, and economic growth. The NDP? They’re too busy talking down Alberta and talking down Canada’s economic future. Their tired, negative talking points aren’t leadership – and that’s why they’re not resonating with Albertans.”

While Nenshi is focused on making Tik Toks of himself being serenaded by Jill Barber and hanging out at Nashville North, United Conservatives are attracting generational investments that will create jobs, opportunities, and improve the quality of life for every Albertan.
