The NDP are united against a West Coast pipeline

(Edmonton, AB) October 2, 2025: Naheed Nenshi and the Alberta NDP are joining their partisan allies in British Columbia in undermining efforts by United Conservatives to secure a West Coast pipeline. Naheed Nenshi is parroting the same B.C. NDP talking points, saying “there’s no route, there’s no proponents” and “there’s nothing here except a vague idea”.

“Naheed Nenshi and the B.C. NDP government are totally tone deaf,” said MLA for Lac Ste. Anne-Parkland and Parliamentary Secretary for Economic Corridor Development Shane Getson. “This West Coast pipeline project is expected to generate $40 billion – 40 per cent of which would go to support the governments of Alberta, B.C. and Ottawa. All of Canada would benefit. Instead of supporting nation building projects, Nenshi and the NDP are focused on scoring cheap political points. Our energy workers and families deserve better.”

In response to calls from Premier Danielle Smith to lift the West Coast tanker ban and enable more energy development, B.C. Premier David Eby dismissed her request as having no basis because pipeline proposals are “non-existent”. Instead of lending his voice in support of throwing out these laws that hurt Alberta’s resource sector, Naheed Nenshi has remained silent.

“The Alberta NDP hasn’t said one word about this law – and others – that are blocking our resource development and now they’re letting their B.C. allies slam the door on Alberta’s future,” added Getson. “I think it’s only fair for Albertans to know why Naheed Nenshi and the Alberta NDP continue to bet against our province by supporting landlocking our resources, getting in the way of national prosperity, and killing jobs for our energy workers.”

United Conservatives will always stand up for energy workers and Alberta families.
