About

The Honourable Ric McIver was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta on April 23, 2012, as the MLA for Calgary-Hays. He was re-elected on May 5, 2015, and again on April 16, 2019.

Prior to being elected MLA, McIver served three terms on Calgary’s City Council, bringing his experience as a business owner and family man to offer a common-sense, fiscally responsible viewpoint to Council.

Outside his roles in elected politics, Ric has been passionate about helping Calgarians and Albertans by listening, learning, and taking sensible actions. He served on the Police Commission and as chair of the Calgary Housing Company while on Council and is a 12-year volunteer with the Calgary Stampede. His wife Christine is the founder and CEO of the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta, and they together are proud to support a variety of charitable causes in the community.

Mr. McIver presently serves as a member of the Standing Committee on Alberta’s Economic Future, the Standing Committee on Members’ Services, and the Building Communities Cabinet Policy Committee. McIver is uniquely positioned in these roles, having formerly served as

Minister of Municipal Affairs, Transportation, Infrastructure, and Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour. As Minister of Transportation, McIver negotiated with the Tsuu T’ina Nation on the completion of the Calgary Ring Road, which is the kind of experience he plans to use getting Alberta on track and building the opportunities we all desire for our children and grandchildren.

Ric has been a proud Alberta resident since 1981 and, with his wife, is grateful to have raised four children and two grandchildren, of which all remain residents of their hometown Calgary.
