FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fort Saskatchewan, AB – Following efforts by Premier Danielle Smith and United Conservative MLAs to advance Pacific Link through the Major Projects Office process, the Government of Canada has designated the proposed pipeline as a project of national interest, marking a major milestone toward connecting Alberta’s energy resources to Asian markets.
Designed to carry one million barrels per day of oil from Bruderheim to Roberts Bank, B.C., the proposed pipeline involves working together with Pembina Pipeline and Trans Mountain to advance the project, positioning Alberta’s Industrial Heartland at the centre of one of the most significant energy infrastructure projects in Canadian history.
MLA for Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk was among the United Conservative MLAs who supported efforts to advance the project and secure federal consideration. This designation clears the way for Pacific Link to continue through regulatory approvals and Indigenous consultation as it works towards its targeted in-service date of 2032-33.
During construction, Pacific Link is expected to create upwards of 140,000 jobs, with ongoing operations, maintenance, and trade supporting an additional 50,000 jobs per year. Communities throughout Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville and the surrounding region are well-positioned to benefit from the increased demand for skilled trades, construction, manufacturing, logistics, and a wide range of support services.
“Last week marked a major step forward for a project that will begin right here in our region. I was proud to support efforts to advance Pacific Link and help position Alberta’s Industrial Heartland to play a leading role in Canada’s energy future. This project will strengthen our local economy, attract new investment, and reinforce Alberta and Canada’s position as a global energy superpower.”
Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk, MLA for Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville and parliamentary secretary for Settlement Services and Ukrainian Evacuees
This announcement builds on a historic energy agreement signed in October 2025 between Alberta’s government and Ottawa, which established a framework to advance an Indigenous co-owned pipeline from Alberta to B.C.’s west coast.
United Conservatives continue to support the responsible development of Alberta’s world-class energy resources, creating jobs, and strengthening Canada’s energy security.
