NEWS RELEASE: Dang fine proves wrongdoing in vax-hack scandal

(EDMONTON, AB): Today, Leduc-Beaumont MLA and former police officer Brad Rutherford released the following statement, after former NDP MLA Thomas Dang admitted he will face a fine under the Health Information Act for accessing Alberta’s vaccine records portal and the private health records of Albertans.

“The result of the RCMP investigation into MLA Dang’s hacking activities proves MLA Dang was in the wrong when he accessed Alberta’s vaccine records portal and the private health records of Albertans.

“There is no indication that the RCMP have ‘cleared’ MLA Dang. The file was referred to the Crown, who responded with a fine over a criminal charge. MLA Dang was in the wrong, hence why he is now being fined under the Health Information Act. A violation of the Health Information Act is extremely serious and cannot be treated lightly.

“Given the serious nature of this RCMP investigation and the resulting fine under the Health Information Act, MLA Dang should not be allowed to rejoin the Official Opposition caucus. That said, NDP Leader Rachel Notley often ignores misbehaviour on her own team.

“Ultimately, Many questions still remain about Dang’s online activities, as well as Notley’s knowledge of them.”
