(EDMONTON, AB) May 9, 2025: United Conservatives have voted unanimously to pass Bill 39: Financial Statutes Amendment Act, 2025, moving forward with key elements of Budget 2025, including personal income tax cuts and enhanced fiscal tools. Meanwhile, despite their recent vote to open the door to a divorce with the federal NDP, Nenshi’s NDP has maintained their party’s longstanding opposition to lower taxes and fiscal responsibility.
“United Conservatives are delivering meaningful tax relief, responsible fiscal management, and investments in Alberta’s future,” said Chief Government Whip Shane Getson. “The NDP’s opposition makes it clear that very little has changed, they are still not on the side of lower taxes, affordability, or families.”
Bill 39 introduces a new 8 per cent personal income tax rate on earnings up to $60,000, delivering savings of up to $750 for individuals and $1,500 for families while cutting taxes for Albertans by up to 20 per cent. It also gives government greater flexibility to invest surplus funds into Alberta’s savings and priorities.
“Albertans expect their government to respect fiscal discipline and recognize the value of hard work — this bill does both,” added Getson. “The NDP’s vote against Bill 39 shows once again they can’t be trusted to manage the province’s finances.”
