(EDMONTON, AB) March 26, 2025 – United Conservatives are calling out the ever-growing NDP-Liberal alliance as recently resigned NDP MLA Rod Loyola has been formally announced as a candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada. This move makes it even clearer: Nenshi’s NDP and the Trudeau-Carney Liberals are one and the same.
“Albertans have long known the NDP and Liberals are working together behind the scenes, and now they’re not even trying to hide it,” said Chief Government Whip Shane Getson. “Rod Loyola’s decision to jump from the sinking Nenshi NDP to the Trudeau-Carney Liberals just confirms what we’ve been saying all along—the NDP is nothing more than the Alberta branch of the Liberal Party.”
Carney has repeatedly changed his message depending on his audience, saying one thing in the east and another in the west. He tells Bay Street he understands the economy but turns around and supports Liberal policies that drive away investment and raise taxes. Albertans deserve better than another Liberal leader who says one thing to one group of Canadians and something else to other Canadians, creating further divisions at a time when Canadians need to come together.
“Mark Carney has made it clear he will continue Justin Trudeau’s legacy of high taxes, reckless spending, and hostility towards Alberta’s energy sector,” added Getson. “With NDP MLAs like Rod Loyola signing up to be part of it, Albertans need to ask themselves: does the NDP represent Alberta, or are they just the farm team for the Liberals?”
While Carney attempts to present himself as a centrist, his actions speak louder than words. Loyola has spent his political career advocating for extreme left-wing policies, and now he’s found a new home in Carney’s Liberals. By recruiting Rod Loyola—a hard-left MLA who once released a rap video praising dictator Fidel Castro and calling for a communist revolution—Carney is proving that his leadership is just a continuation of Trudeau’s radical policies.
United Conservatives are standing up for Albertans by fighting for a strong economy, lower taxes, and more opportunity. Naheed Nenshi’s NDP continues to align itself with the very same Liberal policies that have hurt Alberta for nearly a decade.
