Muhammad Yaseen was first elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Calgary-North on April 16, 2019 and was re-elected on May 29, 2023.
Before entering politics, Yaseen obtained a Bachelor of Science in petroleum engineering from the University of Wyoming, a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Calgary, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. With this education, Yaseen worked for nearly 40 years in the oil and gas industry. As a professional engineer, he has extensive expertise in reservoir and joint ventures engineering, as well as advisory positions in processing, contracts, projects, and transportation.
Since being elected to the Alberta Legislature Yaseen has served on a multitude of Parliamentary committees. These being the Standing Committees on the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund, Resource Stewardship, Legislative Offices, Public Accounts and Families and Communities. He has also served as the Parliamentary Secretary of Immigration, Associate Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism, Parliamentary Secretary for Community Outreach, Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism from June of 2023 to May of 2025, and since May of 2025, has served as Associate Minister of Multiculturalism.
A longtime community volunteer, Yaseen has contributed to multiple organizations such as the Canadian Red Cross, the Pakistan-Canada Association, Junior Achievement, the Mustard Seed, MOSAIC Volunteers, and the Calgary Food Bank. Because of this, Yaseen was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 for his community service. Yaseen is currently a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta. Yaseen speaks English, Urdu, and Punjabi, and in his spare time enjoys walking, reading, and volunteering within the local community.
