Martin Long was first elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for West Yellowhead on April 16, 2019 and was re-elected on May 29, 2023.
Originally from Liverpool, Nova Scotia, Mr. Long worked for nine years as an operator at the Alberta Newsprint Company in Whitecourt, and extensively worked on drill sites in the oil and gas industry, and holds a third-class power engineer certificate as of 2015.
Since being elected Mr. Long has served as Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and Tourism, Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business, and Parliamentary Secretary for Rural Health. Mr. Long had also participated on the Alberta Joint Working Group on Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, which helped to contribute to the 113 Pathways to Justice Report. He also has been active on issues directly related to West Yellowhead, especially regarding resource development and environmental conservation. Since being sworn in as Minister of Infrastructure in February of 2025, Mr. Long has focused on building infrastructure to meet Alberta’s growing population, especially in the areas of education and healthcare.
Outside of politics, Long has been active in community service around West Yellowhead, this has included serving as Chair of Tennille’s Hope Community Kitchen and as Youth leader with Whitecourt Baptist Church. He and his wife, Vanessa, have twins, and in his spare time he enjoys golfing, hockey, downhill skiing, and working around his family’s acreage.
