Elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in 2019, Martin Long has the distinct honour of serving the constituency of West Yellowhead. Martin Long was appointed parliamentary secretary for small business and tourism on October 3, 2020.

Prior to being elected, Martin worked for nine years as an operator at the Alberta Newsprint Pulp and Paper Mill in Whitecourt, AB. He has also worked extensively at drill sites for oil and gas companies and is a Class III power engineer.

Originally from the Nova Scotian community of Liverpool, Martin believes wholeheartedly in community service. He has served as chair for Tennille’s Hope Kommunity Kitchen in Whitecourt and as a youth leader with the Whitecourt Baptist Church.

Martin, and his wife Vanessa, are the proud parents of twins. His hobbies include golf, hockey and downhill skiing.

Currently, Martin serves on the Premier’s Council on Charities and Civil Society, the Members’ Planning Committee on Communities and Families and is Chair of the Upper Smokey Lake Caribou Taskforce. He is honoured to help ensure a working landscape for Albertans, while protecting the habitat of our great wildlife. Martin is also a member of the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls Joint Working Group, and is interested in broadening both the general awareness of this crisis and being a part of the solution.
