Jackie Lovely: February Newsletter

Community outreach and being visible and available throughout the entire Constituency is extremely important to me. That’s why I decided to donate a copy of my favourite children’s book, Eloise the Dragon Hunter to a number of the community libraries this month.

Thank you to the Mayors, Councilors and Community representatives who came out to join me for the presentations. The Holden Municipal Library, The Viking library, the Family Resource Centre in Killam, the Camrose Public Library, Our Lady of Mount Pleasant School, the David Knipe Memorial Library in Bawlf and the Tofield Library each received a copy of the book for all to enjoy. These presentations throughout the Constituency allowed me to speak with community members and keep current with local issues.

Ensuring a bright future for our youth is also a priority for me. I was glad to have the opportunity and stop in to see Andy and Dave with Careers: The Next Generation. They work collaboratively with the Battle River School Division to seek work placement for students in the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) which allows hands on experience and training in the trades.

As an MLA, it is a distinguished honour for me to give a members statement in the chamber. This month I was able to acknowledge the great work that Harley’s liquor store in Camrose does every Christmas. They decorate a Christmas tree with envelopes containing the names of seniors who live in the community. Generous patrons take the envelopes and purchase a gift which they bring back to the store. These anonymous gifts are then given to the seniors in order to bring Christmas joy to all!

While in Killam I had the support of the local Flagstaff Family and Community Services (FFCS) team and RCMP to do a drive-by parade for the seniors and staff. It was a pleasure to have a brief meeting for an update from senior management.

The Sedgwick recreation complex had their roof compromised and it was my sincere pleasure to meet with the team to announce grant dollars have been approved for the repair!

While in Holden I had a tour of Studio 14 The Gallery. Wow! What an amazing selection of creations from local artisans. This is a destination and when you go you’ll want to make sure to allow yourself plenty of time to see everything as they have a wide selection of items. I encourage everyone to check it out and you can see some preview photos of the tour on my Facebook and Instagram pages.
