(EDMONTON, AB): Today, Chief Government Whip Shane Getson released the following statement about Justin Trudeau’s plan to impose a second carbon tax on consumers, starting July 1:

“Tomorrow, while Albertans and Canadians are celebrating our nation’s birthday, Justin Trudeau will be imposing a second carbon tax on consumers.

“As if gas and groceries weren’t expensive enough with Trudeau’s first carbon tax, this second carbon tax will make life even more expensive for families and businesses.

“Our United Conservative government has done so much to make life more affordable for Albertans, including cutting the full provincial fuel tax – a move that has so far saved Albertans $1.5 billion.

“While our United Conservative team continues to work to keep life affordable, the NDP-Trudeau alliance is working overtime to make life harder and more expensive.

“Politicians like Justin Trudeau, Jagmeet Singh, and Rachel Notley just don’t get it. They are out of touch with the costs and realities facing working people and are determined to push their ideology.

“Despite this, United Conservatives are determined to keep Alberta affordable for all.”
