Committee begins open competition for next Auditor General

(EDMONTON, AB) November 3, 2025: The Standing Committee on Legislative Offices has confirmed Alberta will begin the process to select the province’s next Auditor General, as the current Auditor General’s term concludes on April 25, 2026.

“We’re grateful to Mr. Wylie for his dedicated service and the important work his office has done in nearly eight years,” said Committee Chair Brandon Lunty. “It’s standard practice for the committee to hold an open and merit-based process to appoint the next Auditor General once a term is complete.”

Under the Auditor General Act, the Auditor General is appointed for a term of up to eight years by the Legislative Assembly upon recommendation from an all-party committee and formal appointment by the Lieutenant Governor.

“The Auditor General plays a vital role in ensuring government accountability,” added Lunty. “The upcoming competition will ensure that this important oversight role continues to be carried out with the highest standards of professionalism and independence.”
