Helping Those Affected by Homelessness.

Yesterday, I rose in the House to support motion 508 on seeking to reduce homelessness in the province. This is a very important issue that must be addressed in our province as too many Albertans are affected by homelessness.

That is why our government appointed an independent panel of 10 members to conduct a review of Alberta’s affordable housing system, and identify how we can transform the system to be more efficient and effective. Our government is also creating 5 recovery communities to help address one of the root causes of chronic homelessness – addiction.

And our government has redesigned the Indigenous Housing Capital Program (IHCP) to increase the supply of affordable off-reserve, off-settlement and on-settlement housing for Indigenous communities. We will continue to work with municipalities, our indigenous brothers and sisters, civil society and faith groups and the private sector to find innovative solutions to address this incredibly important issue.
