(Edmonton, AB) January 30, 2026: United Conservatives are calling out Alberta NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi for more performative politics – this time by demanding MLAs sign a so-called “anti-separatism” pledge.
The pledge is just another failed attempt from a party struggling to hold itself together and a leader trying to distract from his disastrous record as mayor of Calgary.
“Our caucus continues to support a strong and sovereign Alberta within a united Canada,” said Chief Government Whip Justin Wright. “This is nothing more than a cheap political stunt designed to scare people and distract from the fact that Nenshi and the NDP have nothing serious to say to Albertans.”
United Conservative MLAs were elected by their constituents. They answer to the people who sent them to the Legislature – not Nenshi, who is just looking for a headline.
“Albertans are looking for good government working on the issues that matter to them, which is exactly what we’re focused on,” added Wright. “Our job is to represent our constituents and stand up for Alberta – not participate in Nenshi’s publicity stunt.”
While the Alberta NDP try to drive wedges, United Conservatives are focused on standing up for all Albertans by creating jobs, growing our economy, and making life more affordable.
